Roblox Build Progression Is Broken

A stalled progression chain should be traced to its first unreachable dependency, not repaired by adding more rewards. List the milestone, its requirement, the action that can satisfy it and the next opportunity it unlocks. Look for a missing step or circular requirement before tuning pacing.

Symptom

Players cannot advance from a reachable milestone to the intended next activity.

Immediate action

Trace the next requirement to an actually reachable source and identify the first missing dependency.

Diagnostic branches

A requirement depends on access granted by the same locked milestone.
Break the circular prerequisite with an explicit earlier source or corrected rule.
Eligibility is met but the next action is not understandable.
Clarify unlock feedback and the real next destination.
An optional action can exhaust the sole mandatory resource source.
Provide an intended recoverable non-paid route before treating the chain as complete.
All dependencies are reachable but advancement feels slow.
Use pacing comparison rather than calling the chain logically blocked.

Least-destructive change

Repair the first unreachable relationship while preserving already usable milestones.

Retest

  • The affected requirement has a reachable legitimate source.
  • Meeting it leads to a usable next action, not only a label change.
  • Permitted optional choices do not silently leave required progress without its intended recovery path.

Escalation

Retain the milestone dependency map if the available workflow cannot express the correction. No persistent economy, account entitlement or optimized progression curve is established by this checklist.

Working notes

Start from the last milestone the player can genuinely use, not merely a completed-looking label. For the next milestone, identify where its required resource, action or condition comes from. If the only way to obtain a requirement is behind that same locked milestone, the design has a circular dependency to resolve.

Separate eligibility, unlock acknowledgement and actual access to the next activity. A bar that fills without exposing a next action can be a feedback problem; an exposed action that requires an unobtainable resource is a progression dependency problem. Record the first broken link rather than calling the entire economy broken.

Check whether optional choices can consume the only resource needed for mandatory progress. That possibility may intentionally require another earning route, but the route must actually exist and be understandable. Do not introduce a paid purchase as the only rescue for a diagnostic dead end.

Repair the missing relationship with the smallest coherent design change: a legitimate earlier source, a corrected prerequisite or a usable unlocked action. Preserve the milestones already reachable and retest the chain from the affected point. More tiers do not repair an unreachable first dependency.

Examples

  • Circular dependency example: the workshop upgrade requires a component that can only be collected inside the workshop it unlocks. Specify an earlier legitimate component source or change the prerequisite; increasing drop amounts elsewhere cannot resolve an unavailable source.
  • Optional-spend branch: an optional decoration consumes the resource required to continue, and no remaining earning action is accessible. Decide a recoverable non-paid path before expanding the shop.
  • Dependency row: current usable milestone / next requirement / currently reachable source / unlock feedback / next action / remaining obstacle. A visible unlock label is not substituted for actually reaching the next activity.
